Mr Seppo Vekka founded the Travel Agency Oy Matkavekka already in 1973 and throughout the next decades Matkavekka’s travel agency network grew strongly all over Finland. At the beginning of the year 2000, Matkavekka was already the largest Finnish travel agent chain, having around 60 stores across the country.
In 1999 Matkavekka was sold to a private equity investment group Capman Oyj. In 2002 Matkavekka bought Lomamatkat Oy. The road to one of the largest tour operators in Finland continued in 2006, when the Nordic travel group Primera Travel Group bought Matkavekka.
The company, originally named Primera Holidays Oy, was born in January 2016, when Matkatoimisto Oy Matka-Vekka and Lomamatkat Oy were merged. Both brands – Matkavekka and Lomamatkat – still continued to exist for a while.
Lomamatkat took passengers from all the country airports in Finland as well as from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport directly to the most popular holiday resorts all over the world.
Matkavekka took passengers to short city breaks and guided tours in Europe, arranged spa holidays in Estonia and popular family holidays to Legoland. Matkavekka is also known for its’ well-organised, tailor made group holidays and tailor all kinds of trips around the world to meet the needs of the even most diverse groups.
In 2017, the company took a big step and left the brand name Lomamatkat. All holidays and trips are now arranged and sold under the name of Matkavekka.
The world has become bigger, many things possible. But the important things have remained the same – satisfied customers and good service, always in Finnish!
